But this new-found recognition comes with great responsibilities, not only to clients and staff, but to food and the food industry itself. I was lucky enough to attend this year’s Fry’s Annual Green Meeting hosted in Cape Town where they launched their latest product Kasha, an instant cereal that can be used as a shake on-the-go or as a warming porridge this winter. It’s filled with protein and superfoods, gluten-free and of course, 100% vegan. After the product launch, over a glass of white wine, Tammy and I sat down to chat about The Fry Family Food Co. and family.

Pearl Oliver had always wanted to be a doctor. Despite her interest in medicine, life had other plans. While waitressing at Catharina’s restaurant in Cape Town, Pearl’s manager handed her a glass of Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc Reserve. She took a sip – and the rest is history. Now a sommelier at Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel’s Planet Restaurant, and in her 10th year of studying the world of wine, she shares some of her knowledge.
