What does ‘gourmet’ even mean?

You may have noticed the increasing use of the adjective ‘gourmet’ on the menu of just about any restaurant you walk into. From pizzas to burgers, to the humble ol’ sandwich, they all seem to get spruced up by slapping this promising label on to the menu description. But does this wordy addition have any actual bearing on what you’re eating?

As children, we all once sat on a high chair, with a brightly-coloured spoon in hand and a big bowl of something yummy on the table before us. Quite suddenly, adulthood beckoned and our spoon was replaced with a knife and fork, while our inviting bowl was exchanged for the more sophisticated dinner plate. We’re delighted to share that the bowl-food trend is making a defiant - and fun - comeback. From smoothie bowls to Buddha bowls, the bowl has returned in all its former glory. We suggest you update your crockery cupboard, because if it can fit in a bowl, it should go in a bowl!

Chocolate – a healthy brekkie option?

Ever since MK editor Heather wrote a blog post about her surprisingly healthy habit of eating chocolate cake for breakfast (and shared an amazing chocolate cake recipe, which you can find here), I have been wondering whether this brekkie trend is as good as it sounds. Eating chocolate for breakfast seems more like an early Christmas gift than something that’s part of a health-conscious daily routine. Surprisingly, our favourite super snack has more health benefits than you’d think.
