Set menus for the win!

I’m quite a fan of set menus. It’s probably because I can be horribly indecisive when faced with a menu longer than my arm, inevitably resulting in me choosing the default meal of either a burger or pizza. And if (oh the horror) there is no said burger or pizza on the menu, I’m just lost.

UCOOK is one of South Africa’s top food box delivery service providers, and it’s not just because of their mouth-watering recipes. Their e-food company has a long-standing partnership with NGO, Abalimi Bezekhaya, their primary supplier of organic, high-quality fresh produce. As of March 2017, UCOOK will be contributing a generous portion of its gross profits to Abalimi’s developing agricultural project, Harvest of Hope.

Behind the scenes at Vrede en Lust Estate with Chef Johan van Schalkwyk

Compared to most chefs, Johan may have had a bit of a late start, only entering the industry when he was 28. He started out as a chef at a chateau in France, where he fondly remembers the time spent wandering through the kitchen garden, a basket of vegetables and herbs on his forearm, carefully picking fresh produce for the day. These days, Johan heads up the kitchen at Vrede en Lust’s Lust Bistro & Bakery, cooking and baking (make sure that you taste the sourdough!) fresh and fuss-free fare at one of the most renowned eateries in the foodie centre of Franschhoek.
