Harry Potter’s pumpkin pasties

Do we have any Potterheads out there? Similar to Cornish pasties, we have J. K. Rowling to thank for these scrumptious pumpkin-filled bites of goodness. Pumpkin pasties are wizarding food most commonly sold on the Hogwarts Express. Harry tried them on his first trip when he ordered some of everything off the trolley and had a shared binge with Ron Weasley that we are beyond jealous of.

SERVES 4 // COOKING TIME 50 mins

INGREDIENTS
1½ tbsp butter, melted, plus extra to grease
400g peeled and seeded pumpkin, chopped into 1 cm pieces
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp allspice
400g puff pastry
1 egg, beaten

METHOD
1. Preheat oven to 180°C and grease a baking tray.
2. Mix the pumpkin, cinnamon, sugar, salt, paprika and allspice.
3. Roll out the puff pastry and cut out 4 × 18 cm circles. Brush the circles with the melted butter.
4. Place enough pumpkin mixture on each pastry circle to cover half of it, leaving space to crimp the edges. Fold over the pastry and press firmly along the edges with the back of a fork, to seal.
5. Place the pasties on the baking tray and brush with the beaten egg. Bake for 25–35 minutes, until golden and crispy. Remove from the oven and serve warm.
