Notes of citrus and warm spice are the basis for this hot winter beverage. Enjoy your glühwein toddies curled as a late night-warmer before bed.
SERVES 6 // COOKING TIME 25 min
2 bottles red wine
2 cups water
½ cup honey
Juice of 4 lemons
4 cardamom pods
2 cinnamon sticks
2 star anise pods
½ orange, sliced
1. Add the wine, water, honey and lemon juice to a large pot over low heat. Stir until heated through and the honey is dissolved.
2. Add the spices and simmer gently for 15–20 minutes, until fragrant.
3. Pass through a sieve to remove the spices and return to the stove to heat through.
4. Drop an orange slice into the bottom of each of your six glasses and pour the glühwein over. Serve immediately.
