Why an apple a day will keep the doctor away!

The sweetness and crunch of the ever-popular apple makes for a refreshing bite, but beside from it being a lovely snack, it’s also good to munch on for its many health benefits. Read on, to discover the wonders of the apple as well as our favourite fruity recipes!

1. Fibre-filled
If you’re feeling peckish or craving something sweet, an apple should be your go-to solution. Apples are full of fibre which means they help still the hunger pangs as well as keep your digestive system working well.

2. Cholesterol lowering
The antioxidants found in apples are said to lower the chances of LDL (low-density lipoprotein, the ‘bad’ kind of cholesterol, from forming. When LDL comes into contact with free radicals, inflammation occurs which could lead to tissue damage, but antioxidant-rich apples, intercept this process and reduce the risk of this happening.
3. Asthma fighting
If you are suffering from asthma, we suggest you add apples to your basket next time you are at the shop. Apples contain the flavanoid, khellin, which is responsible for opening airways and can relieve the symptoms of asthma.

4. Diabietes preventing
Apples could help lower your risk of developing diabetes. The combination of fibre, pectin and ursolic acid works together to regulate blood sugar levels and could help increase muscle mass. But don’t peel your apple as ursolic acid lies in its skin.

5. Nutrient-rich
If the above facts are not enough, let the host of nutrients in apples persuade you to eat more of them. With a medium apple clocking in at roughly only 95 calories, it also contains vitamin C, potassium, vitamin K, manganese, copper and vitamins A, E, B1, B2 and B6.
