I am a chocoholic

I will mince no words about this fact.

In a typical day in the life of Heather, chocolate makes an appearance at least once. Twice if it’s been a good day. Three times if it’s been a bad one.

I’ve come to accept this as part of my life. Fighting it would be pointless. A waste of energy. A futile division of resources. So instead, I’ve embraced it – it makes me happy, and isn’t that the spice of life?

Anyway, on one of my particularly chocolate-monger days, I opened my cupboard to discover that my stash had been depleted. Now I’m usually very on top of my cocoa levels so that this very situation does not ever, ever happen. How could I have been this careless? Picking myself out of my pit of despair, I start rummaging through my cupboard to find something that could possibly stand in as the second-best option…

Raisins? Not quite.
Peanut butter? It’s finished too!
Hot chocolate? It’s like 30 degrees.
Raw cocoa? Too bitter.
Dates? Mmmmmm, sounding more appealing.
Raw cocoa and dates? Now we’re on to something…

So this is how I discovered the easiest, quickest and healthier way to quiet the chocolate monster within. It’s basically a home-made TV Bar…

1. Blend some soaked dates (Note: Always soak your dates in warm water for at least 10 minutes before blending, or you’ll break your blender. Been there, done that. Twice) with a tsp or two of cocoa.
2. Add some coconut oil (ideally, coconut oil, but if you don’t have, add a dash of olive oil), desiccated coconut and a dash of honey.
3. Roll into balls. Roll into your mouth…
4. Keep these little amazeballs in the fridge – they don’t like the heat.
5. Eat and enjoy! And never say no to the chocolate!

Oh, and this is just the beginning for these little balls. Add oats AND peanut butter, like we did here:
